ageing naturally without botox

The conversation around botox and fillers has been coming up a lot lately and it is one I tend to avoid. Personally, it has never interested me. I would rather just age, look my age and focus on vitality and health. Professionally, it is never something that is recommended in Ayurvedic practice. It has become so common and accepted and it does worry me.

If your skin is looking tired, you are tired.

If you have worry or frown lines, you are worried or have unprocessed anger.

If you have skin that is ageing, you are indeed getting older with every breath.

If your skin is not glowing and vital and dewy, you are not vital or hydrated.

The biggest (one of) problems in the modern beauty realm is the accepted use of injectables as an extension of skincare or lifestyle care. This is frightening. Ancient wisdoms and cultures recognise ageing as a true privilege. It is an indication of wisdom that has been acquired over time, of lessons and love and experience learnt, lost and held onto. Having lines and looking your age is not frowned upon. Living a long, vital and fulfilled life is what many of us dream of and it is indeed a true honour to be granted this.

From a skin perspective, if you are worried about looking like you are ageing or wishing for a smoother, more youthful skin, please observe how you are nourishing yourself. Are you truly hydrated? Are you truly nourished? Have you truly processed your emotions? Are you massaging your skin with good quality oils every single day? From an Ayurvedic beauty perspective, the practice of daily and seasonal rituals; particularly the act of massaging and adorning the body and skin with oils and focusing on digestion, diet and meditation is key in maintaining vitality and youthfulness of the skin. We do not seem to focus on this so much in the West. It seems that fillers and injectables have become the norm with women choosing this path younger and younger rather than lovingly accepting and embracing an ageing, yet healthy and vital skin.

Injectables do NOT offer any source of nourishment. They do not fix your individual imbalance. They are very expensive, toxic and are not at all in alignment with living a healthy, balanced life. They also perpetuate the subconsious message that you are not enough, that your uniqueness is flawed and that the appearance of looking older (ie. your wisdom years) is something that negates you and your experiences, rather than celebrates it.

That in a nutshell is my opinion on this and I get asked about it often, so there it is. Please note, when I speak passionately about something, I am not passing judgment on people that have chosen or choose this path. It is simply informed discussion through my own lense of experience. SO yes, perhaps a bit controversial today but I think these conversations are important. Natural beauty has always been my thing and I wish it was more of a focus these days.

If you are concerned about ageing but wish to do so naturally and lovingly, I have an amazing massage focused ritual called THE LIFT. It is an Ayurvedic rejuvenation facelift massage treatment that works specifically with kansa marma mukha abhyanga (kansa wand & marma point facial oil massage). This treatment begins with gentle cleansing and rose water misting, followed by a specialised Ayurvedic facelift massage protocol with herbal & jojoba oil. This treatment brings a natural facelift to the skin, is deeply therapeutic, energy balancing and can have a detoxification and emotional release component. There really are other ways and they can not only work for your skin but on an emotional and energetic level which also contributes to how we age.
