Your peri skincare checklist

A time where transformative fire energy begins to merge with the whimsical air energy. Deep in the pitta stage of life, where heat rises and every emotion begins to show on and in our skin. A time where hypersensitivity, breakout and dryness all make an appearance. It is challenging to know what approach, what products, what treatments are best. Let me guide you with slow, ancient ways!

This is a season of life where nurturing yourself, being consistent and bringing in cooling, nourishing, sweetening ways is oh so important. In an Ayurvedic beauty approach, it is fundamental to gently balance the qualities that are in excess with the opposing qualities. Perimenopause will see an increase in excess pitta (hot, sharp, oily, spreading, pungent, reactive, sensitive) and in excess in vata (dry, cool, rough, irregular, mobile and scattered). There is a dance between these 2 energies that is continually occurring and each skin will require a different combination of qualities in order to find balance but in general terms; this is a time where cooling, sweet, hydrating, nourishing, consistent and grounding qualities are needed.

All of the things begin to rise here and this checklist is my must haves for radiant peri skin, as well as the invitation to guide your beautiful nurturing spirit back into YOU!

  • Rose water bathing - mist your skin religiously, sip on it, spray your crown with it

  • Warm compress your skin with a sift wash cloth upon rising, omit morning cleansing from your routine

  • Use a raw, organic honey to cleanse + massage into your skin at night

  • Use quality oils to nourish over creams

  • Daily massage of your face and body with oil, this is about managing cortisol and connection as much as it is about nourishment

  • Disregard Botox and buy a Kansa wand to massage your third eye every night

  • Castor oil; use on your tummy, your lines, a few drops into your night face oil and any areas that need detoxing or pain relief

  • Meditation; calm your mind, enjoy your own company and be in your body

  • Boundaries; honour you and your needs, find your voice and use it, put yourself first, focus on your response and feelings rather than what others may think, run your own race, fill your own cup, self-care is not selfish
